SpaceX Sets New Re-Flight Record with 23 Starlink Satellites
SpaceX continues its trailblazing efforts in space exploration by achieving a new re-flight record. The aerospace manufacturer successfully launched an additional 23 Starlink satellites on a Falcon 9 booster, marking its 18th flight. The event, known as the Starlink 6-26 mission, unfolded at the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, adding to the growing constellation of satellites orbiting Earth.
With this latest launch, the total number of Starlink satellites sent into space in 2023 has reached an impressive 1,711. This accomplishment further solidifies SpaceX’s dominance in the satellite internet market, as the company works towards providing global internet coverage.
Interestingly, the booster used for this particular mission holds the distinction of being the oldest active Falcon 9 booster. Tail number B1058 made its maiden voyage on May 30, 2020, when it transported NASA astronauts to the International Space Station. This remarkable feat highlights the engineering prowess and commitment to reusability that SpaceX embodies.
Following a textbook launch, the booster returned to Earth and seamlessly landed on the droneship named ‘A Shortfall of Gravitas.’ This successful landing reinforces the company’s commitment to reducing costs and expanding access to space through reusable rocket technology.
SpaceX has been a frequent visitor to the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, having conducted a total of 152 orbital launches from SLC-40. This recent mission constitutes the 207th launch from the site, underscoring the company’s significant presence in Florida’s space coast.
Meanwhile, SpaceX’s plans for a launch at Launch Complex 39A, NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, have been met with delays for the third time. A technical issue involving a Draco thruster on the Cargo Dragon spacecraft triggered the postponement. The resupply mission, part of the Commercial Resupply Services program, is now scheduled to take place on November 9, pending resolution of the problem.
As SpaceX continues to push the boundaries of space exploration, its commitment to innovation and reusability continues to set it apart. With each successful launch and landing, the company takes another step towards achieving its ultimate goal of making space more accessible for everyone.
