In a recent game against Kansas State, Texas Tech’s starting quarterback Behren Morton was forced to leave the field due to injury. Morton, who was already playing with a sprained AC joint in his throwing shoulder, suffered multiple hard hits in the first half, making his condition worse.
One of the hits came from Kansas State’s Nate Matlack, followed by another from Jevon Banks. Despite the pain, Morton managed to lead a successful drive just before halftime. However, he did not return for the second half, leaving the field in the capable hands of Jake Strong, a true freshman.
At this time, the extent of Morton’s injury remains unknown. In the first half, he completed 14 of 21 passes for 125 yards, showcasing his skill and determination to keep playing despite the odds. Unfortunately, Texas Tech has had a string of bad luck with their starting quarterbacks. Before Morton, they lost Tyler Shough to a broken fibula in a previous game.
Interestingly, prior to the game, the team had designated receiver Brady Boyd and two-sport player Will Burns as backup quarterbacks during pre-game warmups. Additionally, Cooper LaFebre, a walk-on player, was prepared to step in if needed. These backup options highlight the team’s determination and adaptability in the face of adversity.
As Texas Tech continues their season, the focus now shifts to Morton’s recovery and the team’s ability to adjust to yet another change in their quarterback position. With such unpredictable circumstances, the team’s resilience will surely be tested, but football fans can expect them to rise to the challenge and continue to compete at their best. Stay tuned for updates on Morton’s condition and the team’s future performances.
